Did you know that having snow on your car while driving could land you a £60 fine and 3 penalty points?

Well if you didn’t know already,  driving with snow on your roof could lead to a fine of £60 and even 3 points on your driving license. Some motorists are still unaware of this and driving around in with snow on their windscreen and roof making it dangerous for other motorists on the road.

The law that supports this comes from section 228, 229 and 230 of the Highway Code, it outlines how drivers should prepare their car before they set off after adverse weather conditions. It clearly states that you must be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows.

It also states that you should ensure that lights on your vehicle are clean and the number plates are clearly visible and legible. To ensure mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly and all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users.

Luckily we don’t have legal requirements like some parts of Europe. Some of them require motorists to carry winter tyres, snow chains or tyre socks. The Big Car Buyer and his team always promote driving safely! Drive with care, even if the roads have been treated.
