Preparing Your Car For Winter

It seems like the summer weather has well and truly passed, it won’t be long before the cold weather permanently sets in and we’ll be de-icing the car every day.  Be prepared for the colder months with our top tips.

Tyres

You need to check your tyres before the cold winter months and check they are still in good shape.  You usually need more grip in these months in case of heavy rain, snow or ice on the roads. Check your tread hasn’t worn down- if they are all okay then maybe rotate the tires for even wear around the car.

Scratches

The harshness of the winter weather will expose any minor scratches on the surface of your car to cold rain, snow or sleet.

Repair minor scratches before the damage gets worse and keep the rust away.

Prepare

Ensure you are prepared for the weather before it hits by having winter essentials in your car.

You need to make sure you have some deicer, a demister and an ice scraper in your car.  We’d also recommend having a blanket and a torch stored in there too just in case.

Oil

In the contrast of the summer and winter, the oil in your car is stressed due to handling different extremes in temperature.  Go to your local garage and see if it needs changing as you’d rather preempt this than suffer further down the line with problems whilst driving.  It is likely to be more expensive waiting until your car suffers too.

If you think your car is in need of a complete revamp and you decide you want to upgrade your car, we will buy your car off you.

We’d also recommend checking over the basics too before the cold months hit such as liquid levels, checking your battery, checking the lights and wiper blades.  We hope these tips help you to prepare yourself for the cold winter months!
