More and more cars come with an infotainment system in them these days, but what exactly is it?
You usually have a car with a CD player or radio, or if you’re really old school- a cassette player. Well now many different cars are coming with screens that can do absolutely everything, including:
They also have the ability to connect to your phones to use the apps within it such as Google Maps or even entertainment apps such as Spotify and Netflix!
You’d think that these would be installed in all the new cars, but it does make them significantly more expensive. However, there are more and more manufacturers that are giving buyers the option to have them in their cars. Want to upgrade your car for one with an infotainment system? Then sell your car with us!
Toyota was one of the last major car companies to announce its compatibility with CarPlay, and after holding back for years they announced this will now be happening. In January they stated that Apple’s in-car system will be in its cars, but now they’ve also allowed Android Auto to work in its cars too.
The delays in the past seem to have been because of security concerns. However, in the last few years, Toyota has been building its own infotainment system around Ford’s SmartDeviceLink platform. This allowed some iOS and Android apps to work on the vehicle’s screen by being mirrored.
However, the reports haven’t been confirmed. They said, “we understand there is demand for Android Auto and we have not forgotten our Android customers.” They continued by saying: “If we offer this feature, or any other features, in the future, we will do so with confidence that consumer privacy and data security have been addressed to Toyota’s high standards.”
As it stands, Android Auto is currently compatible with nearly 50 different car brands around the world. However, Apple has made deals with over 60.
Apparently, Google is working to push car makers in a new direction as they plan to provide Volvo with an infotainment operating system that is completely powered by Android. They announced plans to do the same thing for Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.
