Is fuel getting expensive? How can you save fuel?

It looks like petrol and diesel are on the rise again and it seems like the increase will happen just before Christmas. This means an increase would add around £150 a year to the fuel bill of a typical motorist.

The forecast comes following the price of Brent crude oil which has increased by £13 a barrel since the middle of this year, this now being up by approx 20 percent

The Big Car Buyer and his team have put 5 great tips to help you save fuel this winter.

Check Tyres – Check your tyre pressure daily. Having odd balance on your tyres can make the engine work harder which means using more fuel.

Use the right gear. Change the gears appropriately and according to your speed and the road. Keeping your engine revved higher can make the engine work harder.

Switch off the A/C. Some cars automatically switch on the AirCon, if it’s not required during winter then switch it off.

Lose unnecessary weight. The lighter the car the less fuel it will use, remove any roof boxes or even keep windows closed to avoid the car having to carry weight and use more fuel.

Service your car on a regular basis, changing your filters and additional parts ensures that the car runs to the best standard possible. Running on old spark/glow plugs and dirty oil means the engine isn’t running efficiently and that means it will use more fuel.
